Detour is a small service run by its founders. For our first trips, your host is Gaurav or his co-founder, and every route is planned around one fixed point: your onward flight.
Before you fly
- You share your flight times. Arrival, departure and anything that would make the day easier: food, pace, places you’d love to see.
- We work out your real window. Immigration on the way out, the drive each way and the time you need back at the airport all come off first. Our layover checker uses the same maths.
- You see the plan. Stops, timings and who’s meeting you, before you land. If your window is too tight, we’ll say so.
When you land
- We follow your flight. If you land late, your host already knows and the plan adjusts.
- Your host meets you at arrivals once you’ve cleared immigration.
- Bags first. If you’ve collected luggage, your host walks you to the airport cloakroom so you can explore hands-free. See the luggage guide.
In the city
- At your pace. A slow chai counts as much as a monument. We can swap, shorten or skip stops as the day goes.
- Someone who knows the city beside you. Which stall, which lane, which road will be quicker at five o’clock.
- Shared with home. You can share your live location with someone back home for the whole detour.
Heading back
- We leave on time, not late. Your host watches traffic and turns back early if the roads start to slow.
- A planned ride. Evening detours end in a vetted cab to the terminal, never a late-night local train.
- Back with a buffer. You walk into departures with the time your airline asks for, and a few stories.
If anything changes along the way, our what-if guide explains what happens.
What you pay for
You pay for your own cabs, food and tickets directly, at local prices. Your hosts never take commissions or steer you towards shops. Our money guide has typical costs.
